Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept. 23: As part of the ongoing Swachhata Hi Seva campaign, a special cleanliness drive was conducted today across all 24 Wards of SVPMC, focusing exclusively on the removal of Single-Use Plastics (SUPs). The drive covered roadside areas, drains and culverts, footpaths, households, commercial establishments, private institutions and even coastal stretches. The initiative was carried out at the ward level with active participation from Safai Mitras, municipal staff and members of the local community.
In addition, a combined enforcement and awareness campaign was organized at prominent marketplaces, including Mohanpura Market, Ratnam Market, Gandhi Market and Babu Line. The campaign aimed at sensitizing shopkeepers, vendors and the general public about the strict prohibition of single-use plastics and the environmental hazards posed by their use.
During the enforcement drive, a penalty of Rs.15,000 was imposed on violators and approximately 22 kilograms of plastic bags were seized. The confiscated material has been taken into custody and securely stored at the SVPMC Godown.
SVPMC reaffirms its commitment to promoting sustainable practices and urges all citizens to actively support the mission of eliminating single-use plastics, thereby contributing to a cleaner, healthier and greener city.
