Sri Vijaya Puram, Sep 03: The Hindu Rashtra Shakti, Andaman and Nicobar Unit, has expressed serious concern regarding the alleged mismanagement of newly appointed Mazdoors and the deteriorating field operations in the Electricity Department across the islands.
In a letter addressed to the Chief Secretary of the Andaman and Nicobar Administration, Mr. Rakeshwar Lall, State President of Hindu Rashtra Shakti, highlighted that although the recent recruitment of Mazdoors was welcomed as a necessary step to address manpower shortages, the implementation has failed to meet expectations.
According to ground reports cited by the organization, a majority of the newly appointed Mazdoors are not engaged in fieldwork as intended, but are instead being assigned to non-essential office tasks. This has reportedly resulted in neglect of critical maintenance work, impacting transformers, substations, and power lines, leading to erratic power supply and prolonged outages.
The letter further pointed out instances of misuse of public funds due to improper manpower deployment and raised alarm over reports that elderly workers, including those nearing retirement, are being made to perform hazardous tasks like climbing electric poles, while younger recruits remain in office spaces, allegedly assigned to personal errands of senior officers.
In light of these issues, Hindu Rashtra Shakti has urged the Chief Secretary to issue immediate directives ensuring 100% field deployment of Mazdoors, conduct surprise inspections, audit staff allocations, enforce safety protocols, and take disciplinary action against any officers found misusing departmental manpower.
The organization emphasized the need for swift corrective measures to restore efficiency, accountability, and safety in the operations of the Electricity Department.
