Kadamtala, August 25 : The discovery of a 17-year-old boy’s body hanging from a tree in a village under Kadamtala Police Station has sparked shock and controversy, with allegations of foul play from the family and a formal investigation initiated by police.
According to initial reports, the minor left home on Sunday afternoon and did not return. Later in the evening, his body was found in a semi-nude state hanging from a tree near the residence of a local PRI member. While some locals speculated that the incident could be a case of murder linked to a relationship matter, police have maintained that there is no foul play in this case.
Family members, however, rejected the suicide theory. In a video message the mother of the minor claimed that there are inconsistencies in the account of events and demanded a post-mortem examination by an external medical expert. “My son would not have taken his own life. We suspect foul play and want a fair investigation,” the victim’s mother stated.
Speaking to Andaman Sheekha Daily, Superintendent of Police (North & Middle Andaman) Shweta K Sugathan confirmed that an Unnatural Death (UD) FIR had been registered and a detailed inquiry is ongoing.
“A medical board has been constituted for conducting the post-mortem. While the family has requested that doctors be brought to Kadamtala, we have advised that the body be taken to Port Blair for examination,” the SP stated.
On allegations of foul play, she said, “Prima facie, there appears to be no foul play; it seems to be a relationship matter.”
