
Sri Vijaya Puram, Aug 21: At the call of the Confederation of Central Govt. Employees & Workers, New Delhi, the Non-Gazetted Government Officers’ Association, Andaman and Nicobar Islands staged a mass demonstration on 20.08.2025 in front of the Secretariat at Sri Vijaya Puram, to demand setting up of the 8th Central Pay Commission (CPC). The issue of categorisation of pensioners was also highlighted during the programme.
The mass demonstration was inaugurated by Suresh Lall, General Secretary of the A&N Government Pensioners’ Association, Andaman Nicobar Islands who expressed his concern over the government’s move to categorise central govt. pensioners on the basis of their date of retirement.
Addressing the gathering, P. Sathyapal, former President of the NGOs’ Association criticized the Central Government’s for the undue delay in constituting the 8th CPC, despite eight months having passed since the announcement by the government in January 2025. He emphasized the growing frustration among retired and serving employees over the undue delay.
Earlier, R.D. Yadav, Vice President of the NGOs’ Association, welcomed the participants and outlined the objectives of the nationwide protest, underscoring the urgent need to setup the 8th CPC and its implementation from January, 2026.
Addressing the gathering, D. Ayyappan, former General Secretary of the Association expressed concern over provisions in the Finance Act 2025 by which government has been given power to categorise pensioners on their date of retirement with a view to deny the benefits of Pay Commission to the pensioners.
The demonstration witnessed the participation of large number of government employees and pensioners. The programme was led by Nasreen Begum, Vice President, S.L.Vinjit, Asst. General Secretary and P.Jay Murthy, Secretary, SATB and Anand Raj. The event concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Mr. R. Rajendran, General Secretary of the Association.
