Sri Vijayapuram, July 2: The Government Pensioners Association of Andaman & Nicobar Islands has written to the Prime Minister of India urging the immediate formation of the 8th Central Pay Commission (CPC) and the release of its terms of reference. The letter, dated 26th June 2025, also calls for the implementation of the CPC’s recommendations from January 1, 2026, ensuring equal pension benefits for both past and future pensioners.
This appeal was made in response to a nationwide call given by the National Coordination Committee of Pensioners Associations, New Delhi. Similar letters have reportedly been sent to the Prime Minister and the Cabinet Secretary by pensioners’ organizations and federations across the country.
Mr. Suresh Lall, General Secretary of the A&N Islands Pensioners Association, expressed deep concern over the unexplained delay in forming the commission, despite the central government’s decision in January 2025 to proceed with it. He noted that although some consultations were held with the JCM staff side regarding the terms of reference, no concrete steps have been taken since.
“Without the formal constitution of the commission or a published terms of reference, pensioners are left anxious and uncertain about how the revised pay and pension structures will be implemented from January 1, 2026,” the association stated.
The Association hopes the central government will act swiftly to fulfill its earlier commitment and address the growing concerns of the country’s pensioner community.
