Port Blair, Mar 19: The Directorate of Social Welfare hosted an enlightening Online Video Conferencing Session focused on the Child Helpline number 1098. The virtual meeting brought together PRI Members, ASHA Workers, SHG Members, Health Workers, Women Helpline (WHL) Members and Teachers, uniting them in a common cause to safeguard children’s rights and welfare. The Session was inaugurated by Mr. Beena Das, Helpline Administrator (CHL).
Simultaneously, Miss. P. Lily (Call Operator) explains Child Abuse (Physical, Emotional) impacts on victims and society support services for victim and families. Legal obligations to report suspected abuse, resources and helpline for reporting and support. The main objective of the session is to educate children, promote healthy relationships and communication creating a safe environment for children to disclose abuse, elaborated through PPT in English and Hindi languages.
Subsequently, Mr. Anandini Beek explains Child Trafficking involves the illegal recruitments, transfer harboring. It encompasses various forms of exploitation including forced Labour, Forced marriage. Traffickers prey on vulnerable children such as those living in poverty, conflict zones & unstable family situations. Throughout the Online Session, engaged members participated in a robust discussion on various child-related issues, underlining the broader spectrum of problems that the helpline addresses. These ranged from immediate rescue and support for children in dangerous situations, to counseling and support services for longer-term issues.
Dr. Nitin Shakya, Director (Social Welfare), emphasized that the objective of these online sessions is to raise awareness among the society about Child HelpLine 1098 and its significance in addressing child-related issues and concerns. He also said that every child receives timely and adequate assistance and that society as a whole is vigilant and responsive to the needs of its youngest members. The Child Helpline (1098) is a step towards creating a safer environment for every child and he believes that empowered and educated community members are fundamental in bringing about this change.
