Port Blair, Mar 17: In view of the General Election-2024 in respect of A&N Islands Parliamentary Constituency, an order for the Magisterial Duties and directives have been issued for maintaining Law & Order with traffic arrangements on the day of filing of nominations. The following Officers are hereby deployed as Executive Magistrates in the designated place as detailed below:-

The following directives are to be complied:-
The Superintendent of Police, South Andaman District may be requested to place baricades adjacent to the IP&T Office to restrict the entry of vehicles without permission of the Competent Authority.
The maximum number of vehicles allowed within the periphery of 100 meters of Returning Officers’/Assistant Returning Officers’ office on behalf of a candidate visiting the said office to file his nomination paper in a procession/ convoy of vehicles, shall be three only.
Periphery of 100 meters should clearly be demarcated.
Only one door of the office shall be kept open for entry of candidate +4 other authorized persons and all other doors should be closed. The Executive Magistrates and the Police Authorities shall ensure that not more than 4 persons are allowed to enter the chamber of RO/specified ARO other than the candidate during filing on the day of nomination.
During the period of election no private vehicles shall be allowed to enter into the campus of Returning Officer without valid permit.
Vehicles coming in procession for filing nominations or any other purpose of electioneering shall, under no circumstances, be allowed to move in convoys of more than ten vehicles, excluding the security vehicles. The convoys, including those carrying a minister of the Central or State Government, exceeding ten vehicles shall be broken up and a gap of 100 mtrs should be maintained.
As per definition given in Section 160(4) (b) of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, a cycle rickshaw is also a vehicle. If a candidate is using a cycle rickshaw in an election campaign, he has to account for its expenditure in his account of election expense, giving details of all such rickshaws being used by him, an order to this effect issued by DM (SA) said.
