
Sri Member of Parliament, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Shri Bishnu Pada Ray, today called on the newly appointed Chief Secretary, Shri Gyanesh Bharti, IAS, and warmly welcomed him on assuming charge of the UT Administration.
During the cordial meeting, the MP recalled Shri Bharti’s earlier tenure in the Islands, particularly his role in leading the district administration and disaster management efforts in the aftermath of the 2004 tsunami. Shri Ray assured him of his full cooperation in all initiatives aimed at the welfare and development of the Islands.
The two also discussed several important issues, including a domicile/local policy, early constitution of the OBC Commission, implementation of Ease of Doing Business reforms including simplification of sale permission requirements, enhancement of old-age pension, the poor condition of NH-4 in North & Middle Andaman, and strengthening of the Islands’ healthcare infrastructure, including exploring greater involvement of AIIMS or another premier Central institution with ANIIMS.
The meeting was positive and constructive, with the MP expressing confidence that Shri Bharti’s experience and familiarity with the Islands would help in addressing important public issues and accelerating development.
