Port Blair, Mar 06: Andaman Nicobar Islands Integrated Development Agency Joined Hands with Project Baala to Initiate a Project Impacting 5610 Women and Adolescent Girls ANIIDA is committed to empowering women and championing social causes, and is delighted to announce its partnership with Project Baala, a renowned menstrual health social enterprise. Together, the organisations are launching an initiative across Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
Menstruation, a natural and biological process, has unfortunately been shrouded in taboo and misconceptions for far too long, leading to negative impacts on the lives of countless women and girls. In response to this pressing issue, ANIIDA and Project Baala have united their efforts to create an all-encompassing campaign that seeks to break down barriers and foster a more inclusive and educated society. Project Baala trained 15 social workers from Hope Foundation and MAA Foundation who now will take this initiative forward and reach out to more than 5000 women and adolescent girls in the upcoming months.
The key objectives of this project includes:
Education and Awareness: Together the organisations will initiate extensive educational programs in schools, colleges, and communities. The partnership will advocate for menstrual literacy and empower women with accurate information about their bodies and menstrual cycles. By conducting interactive sessions and disseminating educational materials, women and girls will gain a better understanding of their reproductive health. This empowerment will enable them to make informed decisions about their health, and overall well-being. Moreover, this knowledge will help debunk harmful myths and misconceptions that have hindered progress in menstrual health. For this, Project Baala will be conducting an intensive Training of Trainers session for the members of ANIIDA, transforming these individuals into Menstrual Health Advocates.
Access to Menstrual Products: As part of the project, ANIIDA will strive to distribute reusable menstrual hygiene kits to ensure that women can manage their periods with dignity. The lack of access to menstrual products often forces women to resort to unhygienic alternatives, impacting their health and well-being. By providing these kits, the campaign aims to address this issue and ensure that no individual who menstruates is left behind. These kits are being distributed through the generous support of a Corporate Funder.
Breaking the Silence: The campaign seeks to foster open conversations about menstruation and eliminate the stigma surrounding it. By encouraging dialogue at various platforms, including social media and community events, ANIIDA and Project Baala aspire to create an environment where menstruation is not a taboo topic.
