Port Blair, Jan 29: Indian Coast Guard is celebrating its 36 years of yeoman service to the nation. As a part of Coast Guard Day celebration on 01 Feb, various events towards social cause are conducted.
In order to perform its charter of duties there exists a requirement to develop faith amongst Indian Fisherman. The Indian Coast Guard since inception has been striving hard to strengthen relationship with the fisherman across the country.
Fisherman being Eyes and Ears of Coast Guard, various community interaction programmes are conducted to wherein fisherman are educated on aspects like life saving, survival at sea, providing first law information to Coast Guard for national cause, etc.
This year on 28 Jan 13 under the aegis of Coast Guard Region(A&N), a tug of war for fisher folks was conducted at Carbyn’s Cove Beach Port Blair. All out support was provided by the fisheries department, Port blair for conducting the event. The event had seen overwhelming response from fisherman and a total of around 70 person participated in the event. The fishermen were divided into four teams to generate spirit of competitiveness amongst them.
The teams competed against each other on knock out basis. A team comprising 18 members emerged out as the Winners. Commander Coast Guard Region(A&N) Rolling Trophy was awarded to the winning team. In addition, memento were also presented to each member of winner and runner up team.
The event was witnessed by many spectators in presence of Mrs. Jolly Varghese, Assistant Director, Fisheries Port Blair. The tug of war culminated with refreshment and informal interaction of Coast Guard personnel with fisher folks.
