Port Blair, Jan 29: Sri Annai Aravind Health Care and Social Welfare Trust (SAAHSWT) & Islanders Yoga Trust (IYT) in collaboration with Directorate of Sports & Andaman Tamizhar Sangam, Port Blair organized South Zone Yoga Championship in these islands at Andaman Tamizhar Sangam on 27.01.13 from 10.00 AM to 5.00PM with the help of experts from mainland and the competitors from these Islands.
The function was inaugurated by Shri. Rakesh Bali, Secretary (Health, PBMC, and Sports, Arts & Culture).The guests of honour, were Mrs. Bali, Shri. Lucus Robert, Director of Sports, Shri. Marry Joseph, Deputy Educational Officer, Wimberligunj and the Auditor, Shri. Bala Pandian. The Chief Guest and the Guests of Honour have lighted the lamp. There were cultural programme including – Bharatanatayam and Yoga Group Demonstration. The Chief Guest had highlighted about yoga practice for general public for developing strong will power through regular yoga practice. He appreciated the cultural programmes conducted by the experts from Tamil Nadu including Vallalar Yoga Aalayam, Chennai, Sai Academy of Sports, Pollachi, and Sangeetha Yogasana Centre, Hosur, Islanders and declared the “South Zone Yoga Championship” Programme open.
In the Valedictory function, Smti. Puniya S. Srivastava, Commissioner –Cum-Secretary (APWD, Transport, Disaster Management was the Chief. The guests of honour were Dr. V. Krishnamurty, Director of Fisheries, Dr. Kalyan P. Kadbhane Programme Officer (AYUSH), Dr, Santosh S. Mane, Research Officer I/c, ATHCRP, Shri. Raffique, SFM, NHRM, Shri. Ravindran, Programme Executive, Doordharsan Kendra, Port Blair. Shri. Hemant Rao, Social Worker has welcomed the guests followed by Speech about Ayurveda, Yoga & Lifestyle Modification for healthy living by Dr. Kalyan P. Kadbhane.
There was a Cultural Programmes by a Team from Chennai – Bahrathanatiyam, Yoga Group demonstration by Mrs. Kalaivani, Dr. Senthil and Smti. Sangeetha. Also there were Islanders programme on practice of Yoga in school prayer, Aerobic Dance, Group Yoga demonstration by Shri.Mohamed Iqbal, PET, Secondary school, Junglighat, GDM School students, Middle Point and students from Dr. BR Ambedkar Institute of Technology, Shri. Ramesh, Shri. Ajit Kumar Das, Yoga Instructor, AYUSH Hospital, Port Blair have graced the occasion. Overall there were 190 participants in the programme. The Champion of Champions award was given to the Competitors – Master. A. Pranab, Kumari. Harini, Chennai, Master. Savithraaj and Master. K.Shankar Pandi and Kumari. M. Malliga Govt. Model Sr. Sec. School, Port Blair, Master. V. Dinakaran, KEM School, Master. Kannan, Junglighat School, Kumari. M. Kavya & Kumari. Ashwini, Govt. Model Sr. Sec. School.
The prizes for different age groups from 5 yrs to 60 yrs, cash awards and medals were distributed by the Chief Guest Smti. Puniya S. Srivastava, Commissioner–Cum Secretary and other guests. Vote of thanks was proposed by Shri. Hemant Rao for all present in the function successfully.
