
Port Blair, Feb 24: As part of the campaign For Mazdoor Kisan Sangarsh Rally on 5-4- 2023 At Delhi and on various local issues of workers, Andaman & Nicobar State Committee of CITU has organized a Mass Demonstration in front of the Port Blair Municipal Council, Port Blair today (24.02.2023) evening. A large number of workers from various trade unions participated in the mass demonstration.
Addressing the gathering, B. Chandrachoodan, General Secretary, CITU State Committee said that the trade unions all over the country are preparing for the Mazdoor KissanSangarsh Rally at Delhi on 5th April, 2023 against the anti-working class and anti-farmer policies of the BJP government at the centre. He further said that such programmes will be organized throughout the Andaman & Nicobar Islands till the Mazdoor Kisan Sangharsh Railly in Delhi. Shri R. Surendran Pillai, President, CITU State Committee explained in brief various local demands on which the CITU and various trade unions are resorting to agitations for the last few years. Shri SP Kalairajan and Shri Anand Raj, Secretaries of CITU State Committee also addressed the gathering.
The issues/demands raised by the CITU during the programme are 1. Ensure Minimum wages @ Rs26,000 p.m and Pension @ Rs10,000 to all; Nocontractorisation of work; Scrap Agnipath Scheme, 2. Scrapping of four Labour Codes and Electricity Amendment Bill 2022, 3. Stop Privatisation of PSUs and Public Services; Scrap National Monetisation Pipeline (NMP), 4. Arrest Price Rise, Withdraw GST on food items and essentials; Reduce the central excise duty on petrol/diesel/kerosene/cooking gas substantially, etc. and local demands (a) Regularisation of services of DRMs, (b) Grant of 1/30th of pay plus DA to all DRMs, (c) Grant of Bonus to all DRMs, (d) Stop privatization /outsourcing of Municipal work, (e) Stop misuse of workers in PBMC, etc.
