Diglipur, Dec 11: A Workshop on ‘Rights of Girl child and future implication of imbalanced sex ratio’ Organized today at multipurpose hall of Subhash Gram, Diglipur by State Social Welfare Board Port Blair. Mr. G Theva Neethi Dhas Secretary Social Welfare inaugurated the workshop as the chief guest while the Asst. Commissioner Dr. Vivek Kumar was the guest of honour on this occasion. The Chairperson, State Social Welfare Board Smti Ratna Kannan presided over the function. A Good number of adolescent girls from various schools of Diglipur and voluntary organizations working for women and children participated in the programme.
Smt. Ratna Kannan, Chairperson, A&N State Social Welfare Board presented bouquet to the Chief Guest. While addressing the participants Smt. Ratna Kannan, Chairperson, Social Welfare Board said about the importance of girl child in a family and society. She also threw lights on the duties of the family towards the girl child. Smt. Ratna Kannan, Chairperson appreciated the Secretary and members of the Social Welfare Board, Deputy Education Officer, SHO D.Jagadeeshwar Rao for their co-operation to make the programme a grand success. About 800 children were present on the occasion dressed in various colours.
The Asst. Commissioner Dr. Vivek Kumar while speaking on this occasion said that Women are the backbone of the family and appreciated the SSWB for taking care the burdens of needy people.
The Chief Guest Mr. G Theva Neethi Dhas Secretary, Social Welfare appreciated the Chairperson, A&N State Social Welfare Board for organizing such a befitting programme on Rights of Girl child and explained about the purpose of the workshop .
While addressing gathering, he explained the causes of decrease of girl and woman sex ration in the country and appealed all to work for maintaining the balance of the sex ratio and to educate children without discrimination and to avoid anti-social activities protect the rights of girl child and to fight against the illegal social evils. The Chief Guest further suggested that such programmes should be organized in future too so that the children can learn more.
