Port Blair, Mar 10: The Department of Home Science, JNRM, in association with the National Commission for Women, GoI organized a National Seminar on “Identification of Abusive Relationship and Prevention of Domestic Violence with reference to Andaman and Nicobar Islands” on 10th March 2022.
During the inauguration, the Chief Guest Mrs. Sandhya Swamy, IPS, Superintendent of Police (Fire & Police Communication), Andaman and Nicobar Police congratulated the Department of Home Science for organizing the programme which is the need of the hour.
“Women must exercise their rights for their empowerment in all spheres of life like family, education and employment”, she added.
Mrs. Sandhya Swamy, IPS has explained the various forms of Domestic Violence and its prevention through the Police Department. The women have the latent skills that need to be nurtured to make Zero Violence society.
The field workers are having an important role to play to make women aware of their rights and the role of various Government agencies.
Dr. H.K.Sharma, Principal, JNRM spoke on the relevance of the programme in today’s scenario. He also emphasized women’s empowerment and development through education.
Dr. K.Venkatesan, HOD, Home Science and Convener of the programme spoke on the role of NCW in safeguarding women and their rights and their guidance for the women in the length and breadth of our country.
Mrs. T.Hemavathi, Inspector of Police (HQ), spoke on the Role of Enforcement Agencies to Prevent Domestic Violence, Dr.K.Venkatesan, Assistant Professor and Head spoke on Violence against Women in Domestic Spaces, Dr. RVR. Murthy, Associate
Professor, JNRM spoke on the Nature and Forms of Abusive Relationships and Domestic Violence in Andaman.
Mr. Saurabh Dudi, Assistant Professor of Law, Andaman Law College spoke on Legal Framework to prevent Violence against Women in India, Dr.C.Sathish, Principal, i/c Designing Mechanism to prevent Abusive Relationship and Mrs. Nidhi Shekhawat, Assistant Professor, Home Science spoke on the Domestic Violence on Women and its effect on Children.
Earlier, Mrs. Nidhi Shekhawat, Assistant Professor welcomed the gathering while Dr. ShilpaKaushal, Resource Person, Department of Home Science proposed a vote of thanks.
Mrs. Poonam Ajay Singh, Resource Person, Department of Home Science moderated the entire programme and Ms. Biku Mondal, Resource Person has served as Rapporteur.
200 women participants from various SHGs, Anganwadi Workers, Grassroot level functionaries, field workers and students participated in the programme.
