Port Blair, Jan 02: The Member of Parliament of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma today requested the Chief Secretary of Andaman and Nicobar Administration to arrange pollution tests for vehicles in different wards and areas as per a proper schedule, with wide publicity in advance, in all media.
In a letter addressed to the Chief Secretary, the Member of Parliament mentioned that area wise pollution tests, with proper schedule will ease the present rush and people will be able to get a PUC certificate in their own area without standing in long queues.
He added in his letter that responding positively to the “Catch the Polluters” campaign, a large number of Islanders are reaching the pollution testing center everyday, to get a PUC Certificate, for which they have to stand in a long queue for several hours.
He pointed out that such long queues are not only causing a great deal of inconvenience to the public but also might turn into a hotspot for COVID-19 infection.
The Member of Parliament mentioned that in view of the initial signs of surge in cases of COVID-19 as well as increased detection of the Variant of Concern (VoC), ‘Omicron’, in different parts of the country and detection of two cases in Port Blair, it will be in the interest of everyone to take some concrete steps to avoid such huge queues, in different part of our Islands.
