Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept. 9:The Electricity Department, Andaman & Nicobar Administration, has informed that the long envisaged 50 MW LNG based power project at Hope Town, Sri Vijaya Puram has achieved a significant milestone by entering the implementation phase.
Following the signing of the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) between NTPC Limited and the Andaman & Nicobar Administration on 21.07.2026, NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam Limited (NVVN), the project implementation agency, has issued the Letter of Award (LoA) on 28.08.2026 for both the Engineering, Procurement & Construction (EPC) Package as well as the Civil Package, thereby paving the way for commencement of execution of the project.
The project is scheduled to be commissioned within 28 months from the date of award of the EPC Package. Once operational, the LNG-based power plant is expected to substantially enhance the reliability, efficiency and sustainability of power supply in South Andaman by replacing a significant portion of diesel-based generation with cleaner and more economical LNG-based generation. The project is also expected to reduce the cost of power generation and ensure long-term energy security for the islands.
The Electricity Department, A & N Administration has conveyed its gratitude to the Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Power, NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam Limited (NVVN), Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) and all other stakeholders whose continued guidance, support and coordinated efforts enabling this prestigious project to progress from planning to implementation. The Department remains committed to extending all necessary support for the timely completion and commissioning of the project.
