Port Blair, Jan 02: Rise in Covid cases is an indication that guards are down and Covid-19 protocols are not being followed properly by General Public. The arrival of Omicron variant in Andaman, is giving clear indication about things to come.
This is high time for each individual to avoid gatherings to avoid one more lockdown. Recent diktat of the administration to complete PUC certification for all vehicles before 11th January 2022 has given rise to a peculiar situation.
There is mad rush in all the Pollution checking centers. The rush starts from wee hours and continues till late evening hours.
As fear of law is driving everyone towards these locations, the only probable solution will be to provide tokens well in advance for the next one week and then analyze the situation.
Else, these pollution testing centers will become super-spreading locations.
As per public second probable super spreading location is G B Pant hospital. The mad rush here is uncontrollable. This lone referral hospital needs special attention from A & N Administration. Now the best option is to ask patients to visit UHCs, PHCs or CHCs for minor ailments. This will reduce the rush to a certain extend.
Administration should once again think of utilising local Doordarshan and All India Radio and reintroduce Live telephonic programme involving Doctors to tide over the situation.
There is an urgent need to tighten the noose over these two overcrowded locations. The sooner decision is taken, the better it will be for the islanders.
