Port Blair, Aug 20: The VictoryFlame commemorating Swarnim Vijay Varsh, symbolizing the victory of India in 1971 War reached Kamorta Island on 19 Aug 21. TheFlame was received by Commander H Krishna Chaitanya, Commanding Officer, Indian Naval Ship (INS) Kardip at Kamorta Jetty.
The Flame was received with a Guard of Honour and thereafter was marched through the streets of Kamorta Island for public viewing and enhancing national integration. The Victory Flame was thereafter taken to the War Memorial situated inside premises of INS Kardip for a wreath laying ceremony in honour of our martyrs of the 1971 war.
The ceremonial functions were witnessed by the personnel of Army, Navy, Coast Guard and our Civil Administration, tribal leaders of various villages of Nancowrie group of Islands and school children. The solemnevents evoked great patriotism, enthusiasm and reverence in all present.
