Port Blair, Mar 07: Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma, Member of Parliament, A&N Islands has requested the Vice Chancellor, Ponducherry University to conduct the Degree examinations of B.Tech students of DBRAIT for Civil, Computer Science, Electronics and Communication streams through online mode scheduled to be held from 23.03.2021 onwards in line with the Diploma examinations being conducted by the Maharashtra State Board.
He said that there are two courses in BRAIT, Port Blair viz. Degree course and Diploma course being imparted by same college. Degree courses are affiliated with the Pondicherry University whereas the Diploma courses are affiliated with the Maharashtra State Board. The Diploma courses examinations are being held online and the Degree courses examinations are being held offline. Same college being run by the same management but the examinations are being held online for one set of students and offline for the other which is beyond comprehension. The students of these colleges are scattered in various remote inter Islands and the Colleges are not providing hostel facilities due to ongoing Covid situation since their classes were conducted through online. So it would be very difficult for them to make their own arrangements and because of which it becomes even more difficult for the students to appear for offline examination at Port Blair since most of the students from Andaman & Nicobar Islands belongs to financially weaker family. However, with great difficulty parents are managing the education expenses of their children.
Moreover, because of economic disaster caused by Covid, whatever little savings they had is also exhausted. Therefore, they are in no position to afford the hotel/lodge expenses for their stay during examination since Covid pandemic is not yet over and the Islands are struggling with its consequences.
