Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct. 14: Chairman of the Campaign Committee of the Andaman & Nicobar Territorial Congress Committee, Mr. TSG. Bhaskar, has urged the Lieutenant Governor of Andaman & Nicobar Islands to intervene immediately to address frequent power outages and severe voltage fluctuations affecting Sri Vijaya Puram and several parts of South Andaman District.
In a letter dated October 14, 2026, submitted to the Lieutenant Governor, Mr. Bhaskar expressed concern over the unsatisfactory electricity supply experienced by residents over the past few days. He pointed out that consumers are paying their electricity bills regularly, yet the reliability of power supply remains poor. He also highlighted that electricity tariffs in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands are among the highest in the country, while the quality of service remains unsatisfactory.
Mr. Bhaskar stated that frequent power disruptions are affecting students’ studies at schools and homes, while hospitals and other healthcare facilities are also facing difficulties. Household activities have been disrupted, and residents are suffering financial losses due to damage to electrical appliances caused by voltage fluctuations.
Emphasising the need for urgent action, Mr. Bhaskar requested the Lieutenant Governor to intervene on a priority basis and ensure a stable, reliable and uninterrupted electricity supply to the affected areas.
