Port Blair, May 05: Left with very little cash in hand, many stranded people from various far-flung Islands in Port Blair are now in a panic like situation.
“All the money I had, is finished now. I am staying in my sister’s house with my family in Brookshabad Camp Number 02, where there is an acute shortage of water, things are very difficult here and I don’t want to become a burden anymore to anyone, hence, a humble request to the administration is to shift us to our place,” pleaded Mr. Dhanajay a resident of Campbell Bay, Great Nicobar, now stranded at Port Blair.
Further talking to Andaman Sheekha, a lady of Campbell Bay, Great Nicobar on the condition of anonymity said that she came to Port Blair for her husband’s treatment but due to the lockdown she had no option left than to stay in her husband’s friend home at Junglighat.
“All money we had, is finished now but by God’s grace we have been provided with some ration articles from the administration but it’s not enough and I don’t want to trouble anyone anymore, kindly shift us to our Island as early as possible,” urged the lady.
As Andaman is about to become COVID19 free, officially, very soon, it is expected that the administration will come for the rescue of these stranded Islanders. Some announcements in this regard have been made but there is no clarity about the strategy to shift all these stranded public yet. Andaman Sheekha tried to connect with the District Commissioner, South Andaman in this regard thrice but he was unavailable for a comment.
