Port Blair, May 06: As many as seven male attendants of female patients admitted in G B Pant Hospital are facing a horrible time since morning, when they found that the lone toilet block open for General Public in OPD unit has been kept closed since today morning.
Since last many days these attendants are staying in Hospital Premises due to lockdown so that they can take care of patient in need as and when required. For lodging they neither have any place nor enough money. The Toilet Block of OPD was very helpful for them and after shortage of water, they used to bring water by themselves from outside to use the toilet.
Now as the toilet block has been locked, they are in deep trouble as they have no other place to respond to nature’s call.
Andaman Sheekha after receiving complaints spoke to the Director of Health Services to cross check the matter. The DHS Dr. Omkar Singh, told Andaman Sheekha that the toilet block has been locked because there is no water in it and the toilet block is presently stinking badly.
To deal with the situation he has requested the PBMC Chairperson to visit the Hospital tomorrow for a solution. The DHS said that a bio-toilet block will be demanded from PBMC.
Sadly there is no quick fix solution for those who are either poor or are in need. The only solution presently available is to cut off the facility than finding a proper solution. The million dollar question is during this time of crisis and pandemic, why the DHS did not make an alternate arrangement before closing the toilet block. The problem might looks very small but no one can fight back and control themselves, when Nature calls.
