Port Blair, Jan 30: The 37th Death Anniversary of veteran trade union leader PKS Prasad was observed yesterday jointly by Non-Gazetted Govt. Officers’ Association and CITU. The main function was held at Crusade House, Phoenix Bay where wreaths were laid on the Memorial Column of late PKS Prasad on behalf of various trade unions, CITU, Non-Gazetted Govt. Officers’ Association, etc. which was followed by a commemorative meeting.
Pronob Banerjee, BC Bhattacharjee, KG Das & SP Kalairajan recalled the contribution of late PKS Prasad for the working class of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. They said it is late PKS Prasad who guided the government employees and workers to organize themselves and to fight for their demands. They also recalled the historical struggles conducted by the Non-Gazetted Govt. Officers’ Association and Unions under the leadership of PKS Prasad during 1960s and 1970s because of which the government employees and workers now enjoy many of the benefits like Annual Free Sea Passage, Joining time, government quarters, timely promotion, regularization of services, etc. A large number of government employees and workers from various Unions and Association attended the function at Crusade House, Phoenix Bay. Pronob Banerjee, former President of the Association presided the meeting while SP Kalairajan, Vice President, CITU State Committee proposed vote of thanks.
