Port Blair, Dec 11: A Speed Post Article bearing No.EW426145096IN containing important time-bound documents was booked by the Sahitya Akademi, Kolkata at Alipore P.O. on 05th October 2019, which was addressed to Mr. Anadiranjan Biswas, Editor, Baakprotima, Junglighat, Port Blair.
The full and complete address of the recipient was clearly printed in well-visible manner. The addressee was also present at the given address all along. Nevertheless, the said article was ultimately returned back to its sender, carrying thereon the postman’s solitary decipherable remark ‘Informed over phone’ (though the fact is, the postman concerned never made any telephone call to the addressee).
From the track-record of the article concerned it reveals that the same was ‘out for delivery’ on 18th October 2019 only and on 28th October 2019, it has been received back by its sender. In this connection, a complaint was made by the addressee of the article-concerned on 23rd November 2019, which has been received by the office of the Postmaster General, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Port Blair on 25th November 2019.
In the said letter, the Postmaster General, Port Blair has been requested by the complainant to kindly make an immediate probe in this irregularity and inform the outcome thereof to the complainant within a period of 7 (seven) days from the date of receipt of the complaint.
The Postmaster General, A&N Islands has also been requested by the complainant to clarify the following points:
1.For which earthly reasons the letter was not delivered to the address and it was sent back to its sender ?
- Reasons for not writing proper remarks on the cover by the postman-on-duty at that time.
- Reasons for mis-sending the letter to Bimblitan Post Office (as would be evident from the postmark put on the cover).
During the stipulated time-frame, which expired on 02nd December 2019, no communication has been received from the Postmaster General, A&N Islands’ office; not even a line acknowledging the receipt of the said complaint. Hence, this matter is being published for the information of general public as to how ‘promptly’ the office of the PMG, A&N Islands is functioning here – where customers’ grievances are not being taken care of properly.
