Port Blair, Dec 09: The people of entire Andaman and Nicobar Islands might get a big relief soon as no longer they will have to pay their road tax, on yearly basis, standing in a long queue. As per reports soon the State Transport Department will start collecting road tax from the consumers for 15 years.
Paying road tax is a headache to the islanders because all 365 days the road tax-paying counter remains jam-packed with people resulting in the people to wait in a queue for several hours.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha, Dr Navlendra Kumar Singh, Director, Andaman and Nicobar State Transport Department said that a proposal has already been kept for collecting road tax for 15 years. “The proposal is currently under consideration and the work is on for the same,” Dr Navlendra said.
The Director further added that under ‘Vahan and Sarathi’ scheme the department is trying to strengthen the internet system of the Transport Department in all India Level and once, the Department is successful in this, it will enable the people to pay their taxes online.
“Within two- three months the process of collecting 15 years road tax will begin in Andaman,” Dr Navlendra Singh added.
