Port Blair, Aug 30: Mr. S.B. Deol, DGP, A&N Police flagged off the HIV AIDS awareness rally today at 8:30 a.m. from Fire Brigade complex organized by the Naval Unit NCC. 375 cadets including girls displayed slogans for the HIV AIDS awareness programme on placards, banners boards etc, shouting slogans against this dreadful disease and marched through Aberdeen Bazar, Mohanpura, Middle Point, Goal Ghar, Junglighat & ended at ITF Ground.
Before flagging off, DGP Deol addressed them and told that they are the future of India and should continue to spread the message of being safe from this dreadful disease. He also narrated his firsthand account of the onset of the AIDS in India during the 80’s while he was posted in Goa. He further told them that they being the responsible NCC Organization can help in building strong youth force free of evil habits in our society so that the nation becomes strong. He also thanked them for taking the initiative of bringing such awareness in general public. He chuckled with the cadets that it is human tendency to see himself free of AIDS every time one sees a neighbor infected with AIDS.
Commander John E Mathew, Commanding Officer of the Naval Unit NCC lauded the co-operation extended by the traffic police and thanked the Police Department for making the drive a success without causing any inconvenience to the general public. A communication received here said.
