Sri Vijaya Puram, Aug 17: A long-pending demand of the people of Teressa Island, Nicobar District, was realised on 15th August 2026 — on the occasion of India’s 80th Independence Day — when the vessel MV Sentinel berthed at Teressa Jetty for the first time in its history.
According to sources, under the guidance and direction of the Director of Shipping Services, Port Blair, the Captain and crew of MV Sentinel reportedly planned a special initiative to surprise the residents of Teressa Island by berthing the ship directly at Teressa Jetty. Berthing at the jetty was a technically challenging manoeuvre, but the Captain and crew successfully accomplished the task, marking the first-ever such berthing at Teressa Jetty — a historic moment for the island and the wider Nicobar District. The Tribal Council of Teressa appreciated the entire crew and officers of MV Sentinel. Meanwhile, Mr. Ajoy Bairagi, the former President of the BJP State Unit, also lauded the efforts of the Administration, as well as the Captain and crew members of MV Sentinel.
