Port Blair, Sept 25: An old man with some injuries all over his legs was found lying in Juglighat area this morning. Some responsible people of Port Blair after seeing the condition of the old man shifted him to G B Pant Hospital. At G B Pant Hospital one Doctor, namely Dr. Rohit Bansal, saw him and asked him to go to another doctor but there was no one in the hospital to take the lonely and aged patient to another doctor. The aged patient who was in wheel chair was found waiting for several hours outside the doctor’s chamber for assistance.
Finally on information when Andaman Sheekha team reached the hospital and asked the Dr. Rohit Bansal about this case, he said this is not his job to take him to other Doctor.
Later several grassroot leaders including Mr. Sanjay Meshak and Mr. Aziz-ur-Rehman reached hospital and when they intervened, the aged patient was taken to dressing room and was finally admitted.
“Lonely and aged patient must be dealt sympathetically by the hospital staffs. The G B Pant Hospital is doing great service to the islanders but behavior of some Doctors and Staffs is ruining the name of the Hospital,” said Mr. Sanjay Meshak.
Mr. Aziz-ur-Rehman, ex-councilor of ward number 6 told Andaman Sheekha that such incidents show how arrogantly some Doctors and Staffs are behaving with patients. “Good behavior by Doctors and Staffs solves half of the problems of patients. The DHS must look into this matter,” he added.
