Port Blair, Sept 19: As part of the Commemoration of 150th Birth Anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore, Government of India has instituted the ‘Tagore International Award for Cultural Harmony’ from the year 2012 for promoting values of Cultural Harmony. It shall be awarded annually and will carry an amount equivalent to Indian Rupees One Crore, a citation in a Scroll, a Plaque as well as an exquisite traditional handicraft / handloom item. This annual award is to be given to individuals, associations, institutions or organizations for their outstanding contribution towards promoting values of Cultural Harmony. Normally, contributions made during ten years immediately preceding the nomination are considered. Older contributions may also be considered if their significance has become apparent only recently.
A written work, in order to be eligible for consideration, should have been published during the last ten years. The GoI has conferred the First International Tagore Award for Cultural harmony on Pandit Ravi Shankar, the Indian Sitar Maestro. The Second Tagore Award (2013) has been conferred to singer Shri Zubin Mehta. The third (2014), fourth (2015) and fifth (2016) awarded to Indian Manipuri dancer Sree Rajkumar Singjit Singh, Cultural Organization of Bangladesh- Chaayanat and one of India’s greatest Sculptor Sree Ram Viji Suthar respectively.
In this regard applications have been invited by the Govt. of India for persons/institutions, who could be considered for the prize for the year 2019 in the prescribed Performa. More information in this regard can be downloaded from Ministry of Culture’s website www.indiaculture.nic.in.
