Port Blair, Aug 26: The long awaited bridge between Bambooflat and Chatham may take some more time to become a reality as the process of making a DPR for the said bridge is delayed due to non-availability of a confirmation letter from Indian Navy regarding vertical clearance and proposed Wind Tunnel Test.
Meanwhile the new alignment of the said bridge will probably be from Haddo Sea Shore road to Panighat area and won’t be between Chatham to Bambooflat, unconfirmed sources said.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha, Mr. Manoj Kumar Verma, the Manger (Project) NHIDCL, A & N Islands has said that the NHIDCL has been given the responsibility of making DPR for the said bridge and according to initial study the proposed bridge has to be built at the height of about 50 meter above the sea level and the proposed length will be around 3.9 km.
“Indian Navy has informed us about the vertical clearance but this has not been confirmed yet via any official letter, because of which, the work for DPR has been delayed a little. We are in touch with Indian Navy and after getting this letter we will carryout soil investigation and other tests,” Mr. Verma said.
Meanwhile, according to him the DPR consultant has proposed a wind tunnel test for the proposed bridge because of the excessive height of the bridge and to test the stability of the bridge from wind and turbulences.
Only after this, the DPR will be completed and once DPR is completed and we get an estimated cost, the DPR will be sent to Government for clearances and release of funds.
