Havelock, August 06: While the residents of South as well as North and Middle Andaman are already exasperated due to the nonstop power outage, the residents of Swaraj Dweep (Havelock Island) have also started facing the same conundrum since 31st July, 2019.
As per reports, on 31st July, 2019, when almost all the residents in the tiny Swaraj Dweep were in the deep sleep, the power went off, stirring up a Hornet’s nest, for the entire residents in Swaraj Dweep.
While, the residents expected the power to come back in 01- 02 hours of time, it never happened and to their utter dismay the power came back the next morning at 08:30 AM, letting the residents to spend the entire night without sleep.
Residents allege that the Electricity Department never intimated the residents of the Swaraj Dweep prior to this power cuts otherwise the residents would have kept themselves prepared.
“Since 31st July the situation is the same, every day, there is more than 03-06 hours of power cut and there is no fixed timing and Electricity Department do not inform us prior to the power cut nor they are saying the reason behind this” said a resident of Swaraj Dweep in case of anonymity.
As per information today the Swaraj Dweep witnesses power cut since 11.00 AM and the power was restored at 5.03 PM but again there was a power cut from 5.08 PM.
Due to power outage there is a huge resentment among the people coming from all background especially Hoteliers in the islands as they have to run the show anyhow using their generators for satisfying their tourists, which puts a huge financial burden on them.
