Port Blair, July 10: It is expected that the Thoratang Bridge, which is almost ready, will be handed over to the local Administration tomorrow and vehicles will be allowed the cross the bridge probably by 12 July. Today the final fittings were fixed and trial runs were conducted on the bridge.
Thoratang Bailey Bridge, one of the most crucial bridges of Andaman Trunk Road, which connects Port Blair city with North Andaman, collapsed last 12 June 2019, when two fully loaded tippers were crossing the bridge.
The incident has slowed down the traffic at Andaman Trunk Road (ATR) as the only alternative route available after the collapse of Thoratang Bailey Bridge, is through TV Kulam Bailey bridge of Middle Andaman area, which is smaller bridge and also an old one.
