Port Blair, July 04: A delegation of quarry operators was assured by the Lt. Governor, Lt Gen (Retd) Bhopinder Singh, PVSM, AVSM that prompt action is being taken on their concern regarding closure of quarries. The Lt. Governor informed them that consequent upon the judgement pronounced by the Hon’ble Supreme Court in March 2012, the Administration has formulated the draft Minor Mineral Rules.
Suggestions and objections have also been invited and a meeting has been fixed in the Ministry of Home Affairs on 6 July 2012 which is being attended by the Chief Secretary and Commr-cum-Secretary (Rev) for expeditious clearance. The other matters relating to quarries are also being attended to on top priority as the administration is committed to ensure that development works are not hampered.
