Port Blair, June 28: The State President BJP, Mr. R. Mohan has raised the issue of stray cattle menace inside Port Blair city. In a letter to the Lt. Governor and copies to the concerned authorities, Mohan said that the Stray Cattle moving around Port Blair city is causing immense trouble to the road users. It has also become a mockery, as tourists who visit the isles take back pictures of such stray animals moving freely on the roads.
Few months ago, the PBMC had caught some cattle and impounded it in the Cattle Pound, which did not have proper facilities to look after them. This had become a political issue and some people were even jailed. The matter had gone to such level that Smti. Maneka Gandhi had to intervene in the issue. But unfortunately, the conditions of the cattle ponds maintained by PBMC remains the same and so the stray cattle menace.
The BJP thus demanded an immediate intervention in the issue to get rid of the menace. Further it also demanded that the PBMC should clear all the road side garbage, provide removable dust bins at every spots and catch these stray animals without giving them any physical torture.
The PBMC should also notify of the action of catching such animals through print and electronic media for the information of the islanders, Mohan said.
