Port Blair, Aug 08: The traffic branch of A&N Police had conducted special drive on rash and drunken driving in Municipal area recently, by placing barricades on various traffic junctions. During the drive, around 2500 vehicles were checked by the teams of Traffic Police Personnel, out of which 850 were found in violation of various rules and sanctions of Motor Vehicles Act and were challaned on the spot. During the drive, around 2500 vehicles were checked by the teams of Traffic Police Personnel, out of which 850 were found in violation of various rules and sanctions of Motor Vehicles Act and were challaned on the spot. An amount of Rs. 1,14,800/- was realized as fine. During the special drive, 35 drivers/riders were booked for driving/riding of their vehicles under the influence of alcohol under the relevant sections of MV Act, 1988. Such drive will be conducted regularly. The Traffic Police once again cautions the vehicle users to obey the traffic rules and regulations and the traffic signals and signs displayed at various junctions and places. Actions would be taken against violations of traffic rules as per law.
