Port Blair, July 6: During the visit of the Lt. Governor and interaction with PRI members in Havelock Island in March 2016, public raised the issue that there was no toilet facility in Middle School, Krishna Nagar. It was directed that toilets be constructed urgently. The same have now been completed, inaugurated by SDM/ AC South Andamans, in the presence of PRI members, APWD engineers, Principal and students of the school.
Separate toilets for boys and girls have been constructed, with four compartments/ urinals in each. Students welcomed the initiative, and expressed happiness that their daily problem was now solved. The efforts of APWD team were appreciated.
Besides, the development works raised in meetings were reviewed. The position of Dumping Yards at Radha nagar Village, and other areas, was assessed and PRIs were apprised of the situation, of the various lands and survey numbers alloted to them.
A water source has been identified in Camp Number 6.5, Krishna Nagar, and 4000 sqm of land has been alloted to Panchayat, so that APWD can begin project work of Ring well construction, etc. This project has the potential of solving Havelock water problems.
