Port Blair, Oct 06: As a part of the campaign against “ill-effects of Drug Abuse (Substance) & Alcoholism” of the Department of Social Welfare, this Directorate has proposed programmes from 3rd October, 2015 to 13th October, 2015 in different schools, colleges and communities.
Accordingly, the first programme was held on 3rd October, 2015 at 7.45 am at Carmel Senior Secondary School which was inaugurated by Sister Reshma, Principal, Carmel Sr.Sec. School. Shri. A. K. Biswas, Probation Officer of this Directorate welcomed the gathering. Shri. Subash Chandra Mondal, Consultant, Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Port Blair while delivering the key note address elaborated about the various issues & ill-effects of Drugs and its impact on the Society.
Further, he focused on social economic scenario of Drugs, tobacco and alcohol impacted families and suggested various remedial and preventive measures to be adopted for saving such families from this social evils. More than 360 students attended the programme. Shri. Venkateshan, Assistant Professor, Home Science Department, JNRM also attended the programme.
Similar programmes were organized at Ummat Public School, GSSS Haddo (Hindi Medium), GSSS Haddo (Telugu Medium), Dairy Farm Community Hall, Boys Hostel (DBRAIT), Haddo Hanuman Junction, Rabindra Bangla School, GSSS School Line, Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya on 3rd, 4th and 5th October, 2015. The Department will continue such programme on regular basis in all other Islands on a time bound basis. The programme was ended up with the interactive sessions and discussions by the participants.
