Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct. 14: Mr. Abdul Siddique, former Pramukh of Panchayat Samiti, Mayabunder, has expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Lieutenant Governor Dr. Dinesh Sharma, Chief Secretary Mr. Gyanesh Bharti, IAS, and Deputy Commissioner, North and Middle Andaman, Mr. Sushant Pada, IAS, for facilitating the provision of three ambulances to North and Middle Andaman through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds and for arranging an alternative Obstetrics and Gynaecology specialist at Dr. R. P. Hospital, Mayabunder, during the absence of the doctor currently posted there.
Mr. Siddique stated that he had submitted a representation during the first week of October highlighting several public issues concerning Mayabunder. He said that one of the issues had already been resolved, while the remaining matters had also received attention through the initiatives and continuous follow-up of Deputy Commissioner Mr. Sushant Pada, with the support of the Lieutenant Governor and the Chief Secretary.
Referring to the healthcare arrangements at Dr. R. P. Hospital, Mayabunder, Mr. Siddique expressed particular gratitude for the decision to post Dr. Kulvinder Kaur, Specialist in Obstetrics and Gynaecology on a contractual basis, from G. B. Pant Hospital to Dr. R. P. Hospital, Mayabunder, to look after the work during the absence of Dr. (Mrs.) Meenakshi C. Koteeswaran, Specialist in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, who is currently attached to the Mayabunder hospital on a contractual basis. The order issued by the Directorate of Health Services on October 13, 2026, provides for this temporary posting to ensure continuity of obstetric and gynaecological services at the hospital.
Mr. Siddique said that the arrangement was an important step towards ensuring that patients, particularly pregnant women and women requiring gynaecological consultation and treatment, do not face unnecessary difficulties due to the absence of the doctor currently posted at the hospital. He emphasised that the availability of an Obstetrics and Gynaecology specialist is essential for providing timely medical attention to women in North and Middle Andaman, where access to specialised healthcare can otherwise involve considerable travel and inconvenience.
He further stated that the provision of three ambulances would greatly benefit patients requiring referrals to Sri Vijaya Puram, as well as residents travelling to hospitals for medical treatment. The additional ambulance support is expected to improve access to timely medical care, facilitate patient transportation and provide much-needed relief to people across the district.
On behalf of the people of Mayabunder and North and Middle Andaman, Mr. Siddique extended his sincere gratitude to the Lieutenant Governor, the Chief Secretary and the Deputy Commissioner for their support, prompt attention to public concerns and commitment to public welfare. He expressed hope that such responsive administrative measures would continue to address the healthcare and other developmental needs of the people, particularly those living in remote areas of North and Middle Andaman.
