Sri Vijaya Puram, June 12: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather advisory warning of thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds over parts of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands during the coming days, urging residents and fishermen to remain cautious.
According to the forecast, thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds of 40–50 kmph and lightning are likely to occur at one or two places across the Islands from June 15 to June 18.
The IMD has also advised fishermen not to venture into the sea until June 16 due to squally weather conditions with wind speeds of 40–50 kmph, occasionally gusting up to 60 kmph, along and off the Andaman and Nicobar coast. In addition, a swell surge with wave heights ranging from 1.5 to 2.4 metres is expected along the coast, increasing the possibility of rough sea conditions.
Farmers have been advised to take necessary precautions to safeguard crops and agricultural activities from adverse weather, while the general public is urged to remain alert during periods of thunderstorms and strong winds and to follow safety advisories issued by the authorities.
The Administration has appealed to residents to keep track of official weather updates and exercise caution until weather conditions improve.
