Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct 07: In a week-long celebration of “71 Wild Life Week,” the Forest and Wildlife Department organized a series of engaging programs throughout the islands, culminating in the exhilarating Megha Chess Tournament held at the Betapur Range. The event, which attracted both participants and spectators alike, showcased the enthusiasm and talent of local students, reinforcing the importance of this festival dedicated to nature.
The inauguration of the 71 Wild Life Week events took place at 8:30 AM, graceed by the esteemed Chief Guest, Dr. P.K. Mandal, a senior faculty member from the Department of History at MGG College Mayabunder, alongside Dr. Kshitij Pareek, Senior Veterinary Doctor of Basantipur Veterinary Hospital, who served as the Guest of Honor. The ceremony commenced with the traditional lighting of the lamp by the distinguished guests.
Among the variety of exciting events organized, the Megha Chess Tournament stood out as the most captivating. A remarkable turnout of 90 students from surrounding schools participated in the tournament, creating an atmosphere filled with competitive spirit. Notably, two young contestants from the 3rd and 4th grades emerged champions, showcasing their prowess by defeating older competitors, much to the delight of the crowd.
The closing ceremony of the Megha Tournament was graced by Mr. Manojit Halder, Pradhan of Gram Panchayat Harinagar, who acknowledged the commitment of the Betapur Range Ranger, Mr. Manjit Singh, in fostering enthusiasm for chess among students. In his address, Dr. P.K. Mandal delivered an inspiring speech, highlighting the importance of such initiatives in motivating rural participants to engage in state and national events. He encouraged students to take pride in their accomplishments and strive for greater heights.
Mr. Manojit Halder praised all the participants and lauded the Range Officer along with the organizing team for making the event a resounding success. As a token of appreciation, memorable mementos were presented to the inaugural Chief Guest, Dr. Mandal, and Mr. Halder, honoring their contributions to the celebration.
The Megha Chess Tournament not only celebrated the spirit of WILD LIFE WEEK but also sowed the seeds of inspiration, encouraging young minds to pursue their dreams with vigor while fostering a deep connection with nature and community.
