Wandoor, Sept 11: The Wandoor Gram Panchayat has issued a final, stern warning to the administration regarding the severely deteriorated road connecting Manglutan Junction to Wandoor Beach. Citing a complete lack of action despite repeated pleas over nearly two years, the panchayat has warned that local villagers may soon escalate their frustration into a mass peaceful protest.
In a letter dated August 11, 2025, and addressed to the Superintending Engineer of APWD, the Pradhan of the Wandoor Panchayat highlighted the road’s perilous condition. The letter states that the road, a vital lifeline for thousands of villagers and tourists, has deteriorated to a “dangerous extent,” posing significant daily hardships and safety risks to school children, emergency services, and the general public.
The Pradhan noted that this is the fourth reminder sent since early 2023, following previous letters on January 9, 2023, September 16, 2023, February 12, 2024, and the last reminder on July 2, 2025. The panchayat pointed out that the road’s resurfacing was already approved and included in the Annual Action Plan (2025-26), yet no steps have been taken.
“The public of Wandoor is extremely agitated and has lost faith in the repeated assurances,” the letter reads. “If no concrete action is initiated within the next 15 days, this Panchayat will have no option but to support a mass dharma (peaceful protest) by the affected villagers.”
The letter concluded with a demand for immediate action and accountability, urging the administration to treat the communication as a final reminder to avoid a “law-and-order situation and public outrage.” The growing frustration is also linked to allegations of poor-quality construction and a lack of proper oversight, with villagers demanding that responsibility be fixed on the concerned contractors and officers.
