
Sri Vijaya Puram, Sep 10: The Police Training School, Prothrapur, Port Blair, successfully hosted a three-day Training Programme titled “New Criminal Laws, 2023 (Master Trainer Course)” from 8th to 10th September 2025.
The programme was organized by the Bureau of Police Research & Development (BPR&D), Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, in collaboration with Ernst & Young LLP and the Police Training School, Andaman & Nicobar Islands Police.
A total of 27 police officers from various districts participated in this Training of Trainers (ToT) programme. The primary objective was to provide an in-depth understanding of the newly enacted criminal laws — Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA), 2023.
The course curriculum focused on key substantive and procedural changes under the new legal framework. It emphasized interactive learning, case-based discussions, and practical applications to ensure effective enforcement of the laws at the ground level.
The valedictory session was attended by Mr. Uma Shankar, DANIPS, Principal, PTS and Ms. Iti Ravra, Senior Consultant, Ernst & Young LLP, BPR&D (PMA), New Delhi along with other senior officials and faculties, who highlighted the crucial role of trained officers in cascading this knowledge across the force for seamless and effective implementation of the new criminal laws, which came into effect from 1st July 2024.
This initiative represents a significant milestone in capacity building and legal preparedness, ensuring that police personnel are well-equipped to uphold the principles of justice under the new criminal justice system.
