Port Blair, Feb 05: In a new development, the Tribal Department has registered a case in the CCS Police Station against a YouTube vlogger for violating the Protection of Aboriginal Tribes (PAT) regulation. The vlogger, who had come to the Andaman Islands with his family in December 2022, made a video regarding his visit to Jawara Tribal Reserve and in which he allegedly promoted a video showing the nudity of the Jarawa tribe.
The case was registered on 1st February 2023 following a complaint by the Directorate of Tribal Welfare against the vlogger. The CCS police have started investigating the matter and more details are awaited.
The Jarawa tribe, one of the indigenous tribes of the Andaman Islands, is protected under the PAT regulation and it is illegal to film or promote any material that violates their privacy or dignity. This act by the vlogger has caused widespread outrage and the authorities are taking necessary measures to ensure the protection of the tribe and its people.
It is imperative that we respect the rights and privacy of indigenous tribes and refrain from exploiting them for our personal gains.
