Port Blair, Feb 05: Recently, the United States military made headlines when they shot down a Chinese high-altitude research balloon over the Pacific Ocean, causing a stir in international relations between the two nations. The US military claimed that the balloon posed a threat to commercial air traffic and defended their actions as necessary for safety reasons.
Here in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, a similar incident had occurred on January 6, 2022, when a 100 percent similar white sphere-shaped object was seen hovering over Andaman and Nicobar Islands for more than two days by hundreds of residents.
Despite attempts to reach out to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) and Andaman and Nicobar Command, neither claimed responsibility for releasing the object. The police were seen gathering information about the object, but no official explanation was issued by the Administration.
This raises the question of who placed the object in the sky and why, and if it was not released by any agencies in Andaman, was it sent for spying purposes? However, with the advancements in technology, it is highly unlikely that a flying object would be used for spying in this age of ultra-advanced satellites.
The Port Blair incident highlights the importance of transparency and clear communication in matters involving high-altitude flying objects. The situation could have been avoided if the authorities had taken proactive steps to bring down the object and gather information about its purpose. The lack of an official explanation has led to discussions and debates among the people of Port Blair, who are eager to find a logical conclusion to this issue.
The comparison of the two incidents raises concerns about the role of authorities in monitoring and controlling the use of high-altitude research balloons.
However, the million dollar question is whether the authorities in Andaman take this incident too lightly and allow the balloon to hover over Andaman and Nicobar Islands for more than two days without any intervention?
