Port Blair, Dec 07: Despite the Traffic Police having started a crusade against unauthorized parking across the city nearly a year ago, the situation on the ground remains grim. One year down the line the situation has gone back to square one, in most of the places in Port Blair city, especially in Bazaar area, complain residents and traders in the commercial areas of the city. The Babulane are is perhaps the worst sufferer of illegal parking.
The result is that hundreds of people have to bear with traffic congestion daily on the on the Babulane roads, because of illegal parking. Illegally parked vehicles can be seen almost everywhere in the area, most of the vehicle belong to shop owners of other areas.
The Babulane area is dominated by wholesale dealers, this is the reason why most of the heavy vehicle enters the narrow road all the time and because of illegal parking of other cars and bikes, the road always remain jam-packed with vehicles. Road block, heated arguments and fight because of this traffic jam is a regular affair in the area.
“There are vehicles parked haphazardly all along this road. This leads to traffic jams which last for several hours,” said a shopkeeper of Babulane area. This is high time for the Traffic Department to declare the entire road stretch as no parking zone for the convenience of public and residents of the area.
