Port Blair, Dec 27: Following request made by the Member of Parliament, A &N Islands, Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma and also by the ex- South Andaman Zilla Parishad member of Great Nicobar, Mr. Gagandeep Singh Grewal, the Agriculture Department seems to have initiated steps for establishment of stable Copra procurement unit at Campbell Bay and implementation of Minimum Support Price on Copra.
As per information received, today Department of Agriculture has informed Mr. Gagandeep Singh Grewal that a letter has been sent to the Managing Director, NAFED from the Secretary (Agriculture) on 30/11/2021 regarding the procurement of Copra as per the MSP announced for 2021 by NAFED by engaging state agencies at the earliest.
On 27, November 2021, the Member of Parliament of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma had requested the Lt. Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands to direct the Department of Agriculture to procure Coconut/Copra at Minimum Support Price from the farmers of Campbell Bay.
