Port Blair, Oct 18: Dozens of teachers of Nirmala School, who have not been paid monthly salary since April 2021, today organized a peaceful protest infornt of Nirmala School.
According to details, altogether 47 staffs in the school, including 42 teachers and five ground staffs have not been paid salary since April 2021. The Protest which started at 2.30 PM ended at 5.00 PM.
Teachers who are badly hit by such delay in release of salary alleged that the school is receiving Grant-in-aid since last several decades but since last couple of years the school is facing this issue of delay in release of salary for teachers, for reasons unknown.
Many of these teachers are facing extreme financial crisis and for others it has become impossible to run family and meet daily needs, Medical treatment of their family members, NPS/ GPF contribution and Payment of EMIs, House Rent, Fees for higher studies of their children.
Earlier teachers of MES school, Azad Nagar also had alleged similar delay in release of salary.
On August 13, 2021, the Member of Parliament had taken up this issue and requested the Chief Secretary of Andaman and Nicobar Administration to release of funds for Muslim Educational Society School (MES) and Nirmala Schools as due to shortage of funds teachers of these schools have not been paid salary for several months.
Muslim Educational Society School (MES) and Nirmala Schools are government aided schools and depends largely upon Administration’s funding.
