Port Blair, Sept 05: Sighting of a number of Crocodiles in a massive nallah connecting Billiground, Pinaki Nagar, Jaipur, Kamlapur and Nimbudera areas of Middle Andaman, have left people living near the Nallah deeply worried about their own safety and also safety for their livestock.
With rising water levels in the nallah due to heavy rain in the region, villages fear that more crocodiles could be sighted in coming days and there are also possibilities of crocodile attack too.
Meanwhile, a few days back some villagers saw a crocodile taking away a dog from Pinaki Nagar Bridge area after which people are worried about their own safety. The villagers of Kamlapur, Pinaki Nagar, Jaipur and Nimbudera areas have seen several crocodiles in the said nallah.
On receiving the complaint from the Public, Andaman Sheekha correspondent contacted the DFO Rangat to know about steps being taken up by the Forest Department to ensure that there is no human-animal conflict.
Mr. Satya Pratap Singh, IFS, DFO, Rangat informed Andaman Sheekha that the Forest Department has already directed the Range officer of the Betapur Range to depute staffs in the same region to keep a watch.
He added that to trap the crocodiles, cages have been brought at Betapur and those traps will soon be placed to catch the crocodiles.
