Port Blair, Sep 05: The entire Baratang region at North and Middle Andaman today witnessed nearly eight hours long power cut, from morning 09:00 AM to 05:00 PM, causing immense hardship to people of the region.
Because of the power cut, there was no power supply to mobile towers and hence there was no mobile or internet network today in the entire region.
Frequent power cuts are common in Baratang region and presently people are also witnessing low voltage issue, leaving people highly upset all time.
Two new DG Sets, supplied to Baratang nearly one year back but sadly due to some faults none of the DG Set could be made operational, which shows how serious top officials of Electricity Department are towards public. Andaman Sheekha Daily had reported about these DG sets multiple times but no visible action has been taken yet by the Department to make these DG Set operational.
Regarding today’s power cut when Andaman Sheekha contacted the Assistant Engineer of this region Mr. Kali Das, he said that there was a line fault and insulator fault, which generally takes more time in identification.
The fault was in between Camp No.15, close to Kaushalya Nagar, Middle Andaman area. He added that the fault had happened on Saturday night, due to which there was power cut on Sunday morning.
“Baratang engine breaker is not functioning well from Saturday for which staff will be going to Baratang tomorrow to rectify the problem,” he added.
