Port Blair, Nov 01: An Awareness Workshop on Jute Diversified Products (JDPs) sponsored by National Jute Board (NJB), Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, Kolkata & organised by Jute Service Centre (JSC)-Port Blair in collaboration with A & N Consultancy Centre (ANCON) & in association with DIC, LDM, ANIIDCO, Bank of India & St. Thomas Marthoma Tailoring unit run by Seviga Sangham of St. Thomas Marthoma Church was held at Parish Hall of St. Thomas Marthoma Church, Goal Ghar on Wednesday, October 31, 2012.
More than 70 persons participated in the programme which included women, educated unemployed youth and members of SHGs.
Speaking on the occasion Mr. Ravinder Rao, MD, A & N State Co-operative Bank Ltd. emphasized the fact that jute is an eco-friendly material and has tremendous potential in A & N Islands & his Bank will give full support in establishing jute bag units.
Earlier welcoming the gathering Er. Johnson Abraham, Sr. Manager & Jute Service Centre in charge, ANCON informed the role of ANCON in organizing such programmes in various parts of Port Blair & in the rural areas of South Andaman and the help that will be provided by ANCON after completion of the training programme. He also briefed about the programme in particular and also about the future training programmes wherein the beneficiaries will be getting skill upgradation in production of jute bags.
Rev. Anu Oommen, Vicar, St. Thomas Marthoma Church, Goal Ghar, Guest of Honour appreciated the efforts of ANCON & said that as jute is an eco-friendly material it will very well suit the fragile environment of these islands and could be promoted substantially.
Mr. Prashant S. Shrotri, Br. Manager, Bank of India, Goal Ghar affirmed that his bank is all out to promote the government schemes and he encouraged the participants to approach his bank with viable projects.
Smt. Meera Singh, Supervisor, A & N I KVIB informed about the various schemes of the Board viz. PMEGP Scheme for financing of projects, training programmes being organized by the Board & also marketing facilities being provided through KG Bhavans.
This was followed by a film on Jute Diversified Products which traced the origin of Jute and its traditional uses and later to Diversification of the jute material in different forms. The guests also browsed a Display of JDP items displayed at the venue.
This was followed by a lively interactive session in which many queries were raised about the JDPs by the participants and it was replied ably by the officials of Jute Service Centre.
Mr. A. K. Bhattacharjee, Advisor, ANCON anchored the programme & the Vote of thanks was proposed by Mr. Saikat Chakraborty, Professional Associate, ANCON.
